lol I just read an article that supposedly featured some questions from the exam, including " which chromosomes correspond to a man and a woman"

One of the things I teach is human physiology, and development of sexual characteristics in utero is determined by the presence or absence of testosterone... Only if there are functional enzymes to convert testosterone to its active form inside the target cells, and working receptors. People with significant defects in their their 5 alpha DHT reductase can be completely androgen insensitive, and aside from not having a uterus and having testes in their pelvis instead of ovaries, they are women- external genitalia and secondary sexual characteristics too, because the testosterone is converted to estrogen during puberty.

Sarah Gronert was an XY professional tennis player.

varying degrees of this can lead to what is now called an 'intersex' gender:

So in my professional opinion, telling students that there were only two biological genders determined by sex chromosomes would be "indoctrination", not truth.

On the face of it, this seemed to me like much to do about almost nothing.

I have been teaching in California public schools off and on for the past 25 years. We don't pay into social security, California has a state teacher's retirement system- at this juncture, I would never dream of teaching in another state and foregoing my accrued benefits. Even teachers with 5 years in would be reluctant to move for that reason alone (ignoring the others). So I was thinking that there would be almost no teachers from California applying for jobs in Oklahoma.

Sure enough, it has been the widely reported that only one person from California applied to teach in Oklahoma so far in 2025.

And 19 overall from California and New York combined since 2020.

Granted, the articles cited the Oklahoma educational quality and accountability board:

https://oklahoma.gov/oeqa.html

But I could not find that data publicly available on their website.

Still, it seems like a vanishingly small number of people to go to all the trouble (and expense) of both creating the test and mandating it. Also it seems strange that it would only apply to applicants from certain States- why not just give the test to all teacher applicants? It's not like any State is full of people that hold only one ideology.

It is just performative, yes?
